Howdy

Hey guys and gals. My name is Logan and i live in Portland, OR with my wife and 3.5 yr old pit bull named "kissy". I have a friend that is an animal corrections officer in the area and she pulled Kissy out of a neglect/abuse situation, then i swooped in and picked her up. She is one of the sweetest, most gentle dogs I have ever known. VERY social and patient with all dogs, stable and unstable alike. And like many pitties, she is hesitant around adults initially, but is quite snuggly and affectionate after she is introduced. And little kids? She ADORES them and actively seeks proximity, though is very gentle and submissive.

She doesn't have the juice for physical performance, but that is just fine for us. I practice family therapy in the area and she will soon be my little assisstant in session. I work with a lot of children and adolescents that have extensive trauma histories. And a dog like Kissy with her own trauma history loving on these kids has the potential to create profound therapeutic work. The true nanny dog!

Anyhoo, once i figure out how to post pics here, i throw some up of Kissy her her lovebug thing. Thanks for making this neat forum!

WELCOME LOGAN and I will hold you to those photos! :P That sounds awesome that you will be able to use her in your work what a great way to be an ambassador for the breed keep us updated on your success.

I was wondering when you mentioned that she is like many pitties in regards to being hesitant around adults, did you mean people or other dogs? Just wondering mainly because if its people, while I do believe many a pit bull are great at reading people, generally speaking they should love everyone child and adult alike.

If you are speaking of adult dogs it is not uncommon that a more submissive dog will show deference to another adult dog that is true.

Again, welcome and thanks for joining and don't forget the first rule here, don't be SHY! :D

PS, my wife is from Newberg Oregon plus she has friends down in Portland as well so we're down there multiple time a year maybe someday we'll cross paths.

...OK...I figured out photobucket and as promised, here are some pictures. As for the questions about her attitude towards people, she is social and also sensitive to body language. If someone (or some dog) means well, she is just fine. If not, she just avoids them or defers. With people, I think she would probably just shut down rather than defend herself against outright aggression. With a dog, she puffs up and holds her ground until the tension dissipates. But she is never really in this kind of situation with strange dogs that I can't control with a simple recall.
