Irish Staffordshire Bull Terrier?

Postby Buru » April 26th, 2012, 10:32 pm

What is this breed? I've heard it mentioned here and there, but seen no kennels, no breed standards, no nothing. Are they just Staffie Bulls from Ireland?

Ive never looked at their pedigree but I do believe they're just rebadged APBT probably as a way to protect them from bsl

Nope!
Diane you are wrong here!
There have always been some sporting Staffords arround as they are far closer to the original than the KC show Staffords!
There are boatloads of Kennels and strains!
Yes, sometimes they mix something in like English Bullterrier (working type) aswell as some APBT but not as often as you might think!
There are the psycho / stormer dogs, the Dublin Red dogs and many, many more!
Many of them happens to be blue in coloration.

Never have been! Adding one in a strain that has been going strong way before is nothing to count that heavy!
Also there have been added English Bullterriers at times but then bred back to Sporting Staffords and remained there!
So after 2 to 3 generations it won´t be of importance anyways!

Adding a different breed is like letting a drop of sauce into an ocean! LOL!

How many times did this happen even within the APBT without anyone getting to know! LOL!

Stormer the dog that defeated Ricky B´s Psycho was a cross between Sporting Stafford and English Bullterrier!
Such crosses have been rare and still are! As said there has been sometimes a good reason to cross some APBT, EBT or even KC show type Staffords in.
But as a matter of fact there have been and there still are plenty of dogs arround that always have resembled the type of Gentleman Jim and dogs of his time as these people weren´t interested in dog shows at all!

I sure like the looks of the sporting staffs. Wish they were more prevelant in the USA.

Funny, how dog people feel so differently about adding so called non game blood into a line. Lord, c hicken people will pull the heads off an entire farm if there is a hint of "dunghill" added 4 generations back. They say it will always come back. Of course, that is not true, as it all depends on how the genetics get shuffled. As you know, you can breed a staff to a poodle and then backcross to staff, but those poodle genes may very well carry forward, or they may be lost. This is why there is absolutely no way to tell what % a dog is of some dog in his pedigree - or how the wolf hybrid people think they can know there dog is "72.3 % wolf" when, in fact, a 1/2 wolf bred a a 1/2 wolf can be ALL dog in one generation! :D

What makes breeding fun. How are the hips on the bull terriers used by the working folks? Over here it is awful, they have high percent, but I suspect the Germans are breeding for soundness, yes?
